Rosie, Maid in North Carolina’s AI chatbot, is appropriately named after the maid in the TV cartoon series “The Jetson’s.”  As a favorite cartoon character of the Gibsons’, the owners of MAIDinNC, Rosie was the first and only choice to be considered for the new AI chatbot.

Rosie is named after the cartoon character in "The Jetsons"

Background

Rosey (later spelled Rosie) is a character in The Jetsons. Voiced by Jean Vander Pyl, she first appeared in the premiere episode, "Rosey the Robot".

Rosie is a robot and the maid and housekeeper of the Jetson family. She is a model XB-500, an older model, but the only one U-Rent A Maid had that Jane could afford. Despite her age, Rosie is hard-working, dutiful and dependable. She is good friends with Jane and takes the role as a surrogate aunt towards Elroy and Judy. Despite her initial belief romance was a waste of time, Rosie immediately fell head over circuits for Henry Orbit's helper bot Mac upon their first meeting.

Rosie is a blue robot made of mostly metal. She rolls around on wheels. When she moves around, there are usually metallic grinding and clicking sounds. Her arms are claw-like and can extend to easily play sports. Her lips resemble small doors and her eyes resemble dials. Mostly pointed upwards, they can move slightly to show different emotions, such as pointed towards each other to mean sad, or pointed outward and horizontally to show anger. Occasionally, her eyes can light up. Her head is mostly cylindrical. Also, she wears a maid's hat as well as apron and dress. She has antennae on the sides of her head.

She says she is wired for tape analysis which means she is compatible to read magnetic tape that computers used. She can clean the house by herself, use conventional cleaning materials such as a feather duster, and operate the other household appliances. When at home by herself, she functions as a security system and house sitter.

She has a component called a "master cylinder", which needs replacing every five years or else her sensors will become faulty, making her clumsy, have mood swings, and occasionally repeat words. She also has an odometer.https://thejetsons.fandom.com/wiki/Season_Two

Trivia

  • Beginning with Season Two the spelling of Rosey’s name inexplicably changes to "Rosie". In the comics, the spelling did not change until 1995.

  • Despite being introduced in the show's first episode, she had very few appearances in the show's first season. Her appearance became more frequent starting with Season 2 in the 80’s revival, becoming a core character.

  • Rosie speaks with a Brooklyn accent. Her speech was very stilted and mechanical in the show's first season and the first episode of Season 2 but became more relaxed and human-like afterwards. Her antennae always flash and beep at the start and end of her sentences.

  • She seldom calls George and Jane by their first names, preferring to call them "Mr. and Mrs. Jetson", or "Mr. and Mrs. J."

  • The Gibson’s iRobot is also named Rosie.
